R&R Chandeliers

My friends Ready & Rachel asked me to create and install a surprise custom chandelier in their kitchen while they were out of town for a week.

I repurposed scraps of metal and pulley’s from Ready’s dad’s hardware collection, and upcylced lamp parts and acrylic bits from UrbanOre. The fixture is brought to life by 5 Philips Hue bulbs.

Custom Hoist System

There is a special pulley system rigged to a rope cleat on the wall by the mural. While the central lighting element lowers 6 feet at a 1:1 ratio, the majority of the chandelier only lowers 3 feet due to a 2:1 reduction pulley system. This both lessens the effort needed to adjust it and creates an unsettling parallax effect as the elements raise and fall at uneven rates.

Dining Room Chandilier

The Kitchen Chandelier was actually commissioned to match with the Dining Room Chandelier I made back in 2015 and now lives above their dinner table.
