This lounge environment was designed for a private convention at a Nevada Hotel to break up a large open space and provide comfortable inviting nooks for small clusters of friends and colleagues to relax and mingle.
For the Newtopia Ballroom, I processed thousands of feet of fine grain Western Red Cedar into polygon frames and contrasted this fragrant natural element with white Tyvek, a durable, stain resistant, fire-safe construction material. The resulting Shōji Screen style frames were lightweight, sturdy and easy to install. The weave of the Tyvek fibers diffuses light in soft wispy patterns and made lighting the space a treat.
